My New Car - 1993 Astra 1.4 CD
Well I'm not a newbie, so can't right a big "blog" about how I got here, so I'll type a big blog about how I came across the car My dad owns a 1.8 Pineapple Sport and there is a diary on here - I've been working on the car and the initial plan was for me to be on his policy except I wanted my own car and being a teenage lad, I was going to get my own way So the search began, found loads of cars and came across a Rover 100. Perfect! small, light weight and great fun when stripped so bought it - few hours later woman emailed dad back saying she'd sold it outside ebay, hadn't updated the action so I was still carless. Anyway early hours of the 12/5 dad was browsing ebay and found me a car - straight away it became mine! it's a 1993 Vauxhall Astra 1.4 CD Automatic in black with MOT till sept 09! Well happy.
This is the car in question:
That's the only pic I have the moment, auction picture, but should be collecting it this Thursday so will get some more as soon as it's home!
Being a CD it's got alloy wheels, heated and electric mirrors, electric windows, central locking and front fogs - nice spec too!
Initial plans are to give it a proper hoover and polish inside, power wash outside, clean engine bay, clean arches, and then a proper polish.
Mod wise I'm not sure yet - want to avoid declaring things as much as possible so sport alloys, gsi rear lights and spoiler, punto rear wiper, sport or gsi bumpers and a nice sound system  Will also be looking into getting a Cat 1 alarm so help insurance. ICE wise I would like a false floor with 12" sub, amp, new front speakers and iPod head unit
Well happy!

Re: My New Car - 1993 Astra 1.4 CD
Just recieved some pictures of the inside from the guy.. funnily enough called Ben
Consists of a bog standard CD interior so grey dash, grey under tray, grey seats and wood trim on the doors - luxurious It's also got the steering wheel I prefer
Interior might change later this year as I'd like leather so who knows
Also got my chrome veccy interior handles that I bought
Really happy with this car, not bad at all for Ј250

Re: My New Car - 1993 Astra 1.4 CD
Just been having a think about what I'd like to do to this and with it being an auto - I'd like to do something good! not many modified auto's out there so sticking with what I believe of "different being good" here's a list of what I'd like and will work through.
Interior:
Black Dash
Black Plastics
Cavalier/Calibra Leather
Electric Sunroof
Red Switches/TID/Dash Bulbs
White Dials
Chrome Vectra Handles
Exterior
Colour coded bumpers
Twin Exhaust (GSi)
Colour Coded Handles
Black/GSi boot panel
Punto rear wiper
Black angel headlights
Open meshed grill
Tinted rear windows
De-Locked
GSi rear lights
Astra sport alloys
Spoiler like this, well this one actually - someone from the astra forum
ICE
False floor
False parcel shelf
12" Sub
Amp
New front speakers
New rear speakers
iPod headunit
Security
Remote Locking
Cat 1 Alarm
De-Locked
A lot of work required but consider it a work-in-progress!!

Re: My New Car - 1993 Astra 1.4 CD
looks a nice car mate , just a shame its a 5 door vehicle...
also automatic ,how are you going to floor it
also automatic ,how are you going to floor it
Re: My New Car - 1993 Astra 1.4 CD
Cheers.
Because it has a sport button and I'll tell you now, they rev right up to 5k no problem at all with that! also not all of us feel we need to "floor it" also insurance comapanies prefer autos hence why my insurance, on my own policy at 17 is just Ј66 a month.
Yep it's a 5dr, I don't like 3dr cars and also I need 5dr because it's more practical

Re: My New Car - 1993 Astra 1.4 CD
looks tidy
just a personal note tho.......
i had an auto pug 307 it was great until it lost traction on black ice and put me n the missus in a lamppost
theres no engine breaking to speak of and less control of what the engine is doing.Personally i wouldnt have another!
back to yours tho.......
it should have a kick down, sports buttons generall tend to raise the rev limiter a bit.
good luck with the project
could be a nice sleeper
what you done with the other astra????

Re: My New Car - 1993 Astra 1.4 CD
Well haven't updated this, well since I got it home lol but quite a lot has happened so here's a list of what I've done
Exterior
- Started de-bump stripping
- Astra MK4 side repeaters
- Astra ph2 mirrors, mine's a ph1, so now got nice curvy colour coded ones!
- Punto 3dr rear wiper
- Astra GSi rear lights
- Red rear drums
- 15" Vectra alloys
- Blue tint extra bright headlight and sidelight bulbs
- Brand new pollen filter - Ј1 eBay
Interior
- New black seats with matching door cards
- Led interior light bulb
- Vectra smoked interior light with seperate map lights
- All switches converted to LED's - headlight, fog lights, headlight adjustment, heater, dials, info display, air recirculation
- New car scent air freshner
- Rubber mats
- New parcel shelf straps
- Vectra chrome interior handles
- Green bulbs in rear grab handles
- Carbon effect facia around info display
Still to be done
- Fit door cards
- Fit remaining 2 vectra chrome interior handles
- Fit led bulbs to boot light, glove box light and rear grab handles
- Remove remaining bump strips
- Fit new front pads and disks
- Paint front calipers
- Fit remote locking
- Fit led strips under doors - kerb lighting when doors open
- Fit led strips in foot wells for when doors open
- Colour coded bumpers with astra mk4 front splitter
- order twin or oval back box
- fix dent from previous owner
Then will sort out my ice I'm going to be having:
- MDF false floor and parcel shelf
- 6x9's hidden in shelf
- 12 sub built into the floor but using spare wheel well to house it with perspex cover
- 2 blue cathode tubes built into mdf shelf to light boot
- 2 red cathode tubes attached under perspex cover
- Amp under front passenger seat
- Front components - tweeters, speakers & crossovers
Reason behind having the sub built into the floor is to keep maximum boot space and by using the wheel well it gives me complete flat floor
The friend of the family making my boot floor and shelf works with wood etc for a living so the work will be done to a high standard just like he would for any work he does! so will all look quite smart!!
As it stands at the moment: Note info display is now red not blue
